Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Conquered Ojos Del Salado

Monday, January 25th, 2010

It was almost seventy years ago when the first man climbed the world’s highest volcano, Ojos del Salado in Chile. And such record is going to be contested not by someone but by two Jeep Wrangler Unlimited vehicles that has set to create a new world record by climbing 6,646 meters (21,804 feet) to the volcano’s rim. The said achievement was certified by Guinness World Records™ and was said not to be easily beaten.

Aside from Jeep Wrangler there were other vehicles that tried to reach the top of the volcano unfortunately all of them failed. It is only Wrangler that has succeeded in reaching the top of the volcano. The Ojos del Salado is the second highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere (6,892 meters/22,597 feet), and now after Jeep Wrangler has succeeded in reaching its top its been dubbed as the “highest parking lot in the world”—exclusive for Jeep only until the time comes that another vehicle will be able to accomplished what the iconic brand and maker of quality Jeep roof rack has achieved, until then the volcano will solely be the parking area of Jeep.

The remarkable journey to the top of Ojos del Salado happens last March, which took the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited vehicles together with a team from Extreme Events in Germany led by Mattias Jeschke five exhausting days in conquering the inhospitable volcano in the Chile.

According to George Murphy, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, “This was exactly the challenge to separate the new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited from all other 4×4 vehicles. A climb like this in not just off-road, but extreme conditions, is a testament to the performance of the vehicle’s powertrain, suspension and overall quality. We are very proud that Wrangler Unlimited was the first vehicle to be able to complete such a rigorous challenge, and believe that it really does set the vehicle apart from its competition.”

During the climb the team endured hurricane-strength winds, temperatures that reached minus 30 degrees Centigrade or minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit not to mention the limited air that goes with such altitudes and the difficulty of maneuvering over glaciers, fissured rock cliffs and volcanic sand. The last part of the climb was considered to be the most grueling since both Wrangler Unlimited vehicles had to cross a glacier with smooth parts that would require if traveled by foot for spiked shoes.

That’s not the end of the difficult part, the Wrangler vehicles need also to pass a glacier field with fissured ice area strewn with razor sharp snow penitents. It is by surpassing such difficult terrain that the Wrangler’s 3.8L V6 engine and Goodyear’s MT/R tires have proven their true capabilities. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is the very first vehicle to cross the glaciers of Ojos del Salado.

After the team has successfully surpass its initial goal of 6,500 meters which is just beyond the glacier, the team continuous onward until they were left with no room to drive. Jeschke team leader has described the experience after reaching the plateau at the end of the summit as “Unbelievable, tremendous, phenomenal. The Wranglers are unbeatable.”

The two Wrangler Unlimited vehicles that have completed the challenge were standard equipment Rubicon models. Aside from the standard equipment both Wrangler Unlimited were fitted with Goodyear MT/R tires, electronic altitude measuring technology and winches. Both of the Wranglers Unlimited were equipped with one-of-a-kind, four-door open air design, and offer more comfort, space versatility, as well as open-air options.

The Wrangler Limited can also accommodate five adult passengers and possess the most cargo space— which is a first for the Wrangler model. The Wrangler Unlimited is a combination of style, practicality, and off-road capability. It also expands Jeep experience and core values to a broader range of customers who may want to have a Wrangler.

Outside North America the Wrangler Unlimited is offered in two engine options: the all-new 2.8 liter common rail turbo diesel engine as a new 3.8 liter V6 petrol engine. The Wrangler is available in left and right hand drive with solid axles, exposed hinges, removable doors, a fold-down windscreen and innovative removable and convertible tops. Wrangler also retained the brand’s core values of adventure, freedom, authenticity, and mastery.

Automobiles continue to explode as the population turn out to be in a very large number. Greater number of people means a larger number to support transportation. The most popular method of transportation in some places is by the use of jeeps. The jeep is a colorful and festive-looking jeep, designed after the American jeeps used in World War II. Jeeps run through all major roads in many places. Travel by means of a jeep is great for short trips. Destinations are displayed on the windshields and the sides of the jeeps.

The jeep originated after World War II, especially in the Philippines. Filipinos modified abandoned US jeeps for use as small buses. They extended the bodies up to four times the original length, added steel roofs, installed bench seats along the sides of the interior, and opened up the backs. The design can easily carry up to 11 passengers. Drivers often mounted chrome horses on the hood in commemoration of the horse drawn carriages that once performed the same function. No two jeeps look in a similar way; owners decorate their vehicles with fancy mirrors, lights, paintings, numerous whip antennas, and shiny metallic exteriors.

There are also different models of jeeps being used today including 20,000 jeep parts covering all makes and models of Jeeps. Army Jeeps for Sale

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Many of us are interested in buying an Army Jeep, but they can be hard to find, which can be frustrating. So where can you find Army Jeeps for sale that are still in good condition? Here are few places:

Auctions

Auctions are always a good place to find old Army Jeeps. Why? Because many people prefer to put Army Jeeps for sale in this manner compared to other options, such as classified ads – online or otherwise. Some believe that putting Army Jeeps for sale in an auction will allow them to make more money off of the Jeeps than other means of putting up Army Jeeps for sale because they can sell to a wider audience. One of the nice things about an auction is that you can often see the condition and quality of the Army Jeeps for sale, whereas you may not know what the Army Jeeps for sale look like before you buy them if you go through other options such as a classified ad that does not have pictures.  An auction site will normally have multiple pictures, as well as a long description that you will not get in a classified.

Classifieds

Classifieds are also somewhere to find Army Jeeps for sale that are in good condition. You can search for Army Jeeps for sale in online classified ads, or the ads in your local newspapers. From here you can either look locally or nationally for Army Jeeps for sale. Sometimes it is easier to find better deals on Army Jeeps for sale in another part of the country – but be careful about travel or shipping costs. On the other hand, an exciting road trip in your new Army Jeep would be well worth the trip!

Also, make sure you know the quality of the Army Jeeps which you are looking at. Older Jeeps are known to rust, and depending on how much and in what way it has been used, it might have strain on parts that the current owner may not consider – or may not want you to know about. Don’t forget, many of the people putting up their Army Jeeps for sale may be doing so because maintenance on them has become prohibitively pricey for the owner. The parts for older Army Jeeps are expensive and sometimes hard to come by. Many parts on Army Jeeps for sale are no longer manufactured or are not manufactured to as high of a quality as the original part was. If you are a technically and mechanically savvy person, make sure you get your hands on the original maintenance manuals as well. Why? Because, as much as we love our Army Jeeps, they do have problems as they get older – just like the rest of us. Having the original maintenance manuals will help you fix the problems yourself, or at least understand what the problem is when you take it in for repairs. These manuals can also help you find out the exact part you need for replacements.

Hopefully the above information will help you find the perfect Army Jeep!

Jeep Sponsors Soul2soul II Tour 2007

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

In a recent press conference held at the Country Music Hall of Fame, two of the most famous country music artists and real life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill said that Chrysler Group’s Jeep brand has announced its sponsorship to the couple’s North American concert series tour called the “Soul2Soul Tour 2007″.

The Jeep brand is really a great sponsor for the couple. In fact, a Jeep vehicle called the “Date Jeep” was a part of the coupe’s love story. Faith Hill explains:

“In 1996 in State College, Penn., we were doing a show together. We took a ride in a borrowed Jeep and that’s where we decided that we were going to be together and build a life together.

Back in 1996, we were in State College, Pennsylvania it was in March and we were doing a show together, we borrowed the Jeep of this runner for the fair where we were performing. That’s where we definitely decided that we were going to be together, that from that point on we were going to take this relationship seriously and make a life together and it started in that Jeep right out there and it’s a nice little way to finish out a circle…and you can add all the details that I left out.” (talking to Tim McGraw).

Tim McGraw added:

“Well there’s not too many details I want to add. She tracked down the Jeep and gave it to me for my birthday a couple of years ago and I thought that was a pretty cool surprise. We’re excited. I had a Jeep when I was in high school, always had a good time in them, tore a few up in the mud. And this one is very special to us as you can tell that she told. And we’re excited to get back on the road again. Last summer was really cool for us, that was the third time we’d been on tour together. The first tour was my Spontaneous Combustion tour which was my first headlining tour.”

The Soul2Soul Tour 2007 will commence in Omaha, Nebraska on June 6, visiting other cities in North America ending the tour at Anaheim, California on Aug. 10. With Jeep’s sponsorship in the Soul2Soul Tour 2007 concert series, the brand will be a part of every concert venue. In addition, the company will also develop a special “Soul2Soul” 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that will travel along the tour with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Of course, the couple will also bring their “Date Jeep”, which is a red 1978 Jeep CJ-6 to go along with the concert tour. For the concert viewers, Jeep will conduct special events in concert venues along with product placements. The company will show off some of the latest Jeep models and other Jeep parts for on- and off-road capability like the Freedom-Drive II off-road package and Jeep fender for instance.

Moreover, as a part of Jeep’s sponsorship, the brand will also include online activities for country music lovers and at the same time auto enthusiasts.

John Plecha, Director of Jeep Brand Marketing and Global Communications commented on their sponsorship and said: “Tim and Faith have a story about how the Jeep brand has been part of their lives that’s not unlike the thousands of stories we hear every year from Jeep owners all over the world.”

“As members of our Jeep family, it made perfect sense to blend our brands into a mutually beneficial partnership. We are very pleased to be associated with these two very talented artists who reach a broad audience much like the seven vehicles in the Jeep lineup.” he added.

Career Lifespan of Jeep Tour Guide

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Do you think you want to be a Jeep tour guide? Many think it sounds like fun, and it is, for a while. But, for most, the romance wears off quickly. The average career lifespan of Jeep tour guide in Sedona is less than two years, but there are those who have been guiding for five, ten, even twenty years.

I have been in the Jeep tour business since 1996, which makes me about ninety-six in Jeep years. I have eaten enough red dust to be convicted of smuggling federal property. I have ushered thousands of visitors into the backcountry. I have grown tired of the sound of my own voice. I have watched Jeeps go from the showroom floor to tour status to beyond reasonable maintenance, relegated to the Jeep retirement lot, with 150,000 trail miles on them. I have hosed off various types of excrement from Jeeps. For more details go to www.dishadvice.com .And I have seen guides train, passed by them on the trail for a while, then saw them eventually move on to a “real” job. Let me give you insight to the whole world of professional Jeep tour guiding, from start to — finish?

It takes a certain type of person to really be a guide, as an ongoing career. Most “career” guides are very serious nature and history lovers. They drive Jeeps all week, then spend their days off hiking, biking, or even Jeering. They love to read. They have heated debates with their associates about the current scientific name of the javelina, the best way to eat agaves, or the latest tour joke. They are clever, independent, resourceful, animated, and loud. They are very much people-people — they love to entertain and be the center of attention. And they can deal with a great deal of ups and downs, not just on the trail, but also in their schedules and bank accounts.

The first thing hopefuls should know is that fewer than fifty-percent of applicants will even get an interview, due to the sheer volume of applications. When I was a Jeep tour trail boss, my interview technique consisted primarily of trying to talk the applicant out of the job. I would tell them all of the disadvantages of the job, like bouncing around all day long, eating dust in the heat, or getting drenched in the freezing rain, all the while being charming and entertaining, and answering the same questions you have heard a thousand times. Some applicants are dismayed by the fact that there are no fixed paid hours. Guides are paid by the hour only for driving tours, on a rotating schedule, at the whim of the weather and tourism flow. Some applicants are even distressed to learn that they have to wash their own Jeeps. If none of that seems to faze them, we move on with the interview. For more information logon to www.apples-recipes.com .Jeep tour companies are looking for personality first. They want someone who is responsible, yet entertaining; informative, yet interesting; and safety-conscious, but fun. Many of these traits may seem contradictory, but it is exactly what makes a good guide. And, contradictory to popular belief, guides are not hired for their four-wheeling prowess, in fact, personality, not off-road experience, is the single most important factor in guide selection. There are some really great four-wheelers who will never make the cut as a guide. Likewise, there are many great guides who were hired without any previous four-wheeling experience. The priorities of most tour companies fall in this order: first, safety; second, entertainment; third, education.

What happens to the applicants who do make the cut? Training, training, training, which may take anywhere from two to twelve weeks, depending on the trainee’s previous experience. Trainees must learn about local history, geology, ecology, environmental etiquette, company policies and procedures, and, yes, how to drive a Jeep. No matter how many years of 4×4 experiences a trainee has, there are many things that must be learned to manage the responsibility of driving a “heavy” Jeep with paying guests as a full time job. Most companies don’t pay for training time, either — that, alone, tests the resolve of the trainee.

Training involves lots of studying. Jeep tour companies each compile their own guide training manuals, which include company policies and area information. A trainee should also spend a lot of time at the library, the historical society, and area parks. Most companies will expect you to know more about the area than you will ever be able to share in one two-hour tour, but you need that depth of knowledge from which to draw. Veteran guides have forgotten more than most people will ever know about Sedona, and rookies will still be expected to be able to discuss at length the virtues of the agaves, or the patterns of geological erosion, or the effect of the World Series on the socio-economic structure of Sedona.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Combines the Comfort of an SUV With the Performance of a Sports Car

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

If you crave the incredible speed and high performance agility of a sports car, but need a little more leg room or towing capacity, look no further than the luxurious Jeep Grand Cherokee. Originally introduced in 1993, Jeep’s flag-ship sports utility vehicle (SUV) has evolved throughout the past fifteen years to become a refined, powerful, and sleek machine. It is capable of going 0 MPH to 60 MPH in less than five seconds while still providing a superior on- and off-road experience, important for those true Jeep aficionados!

Initially developed as a spin-off of the smaller Jeep Cherokee, the Jeep Grand Cherokee quickly created a name for itself with its spacious interior, comfortable ride, natural-feeling steering, luxury materials, safety features, legendary Jeep off-road capability, and on-demand acceleration. Its secret to a comfortable ride, while still allowing for great speed and off-road performance, lays in the stiff unibody chassis coupled with an advanced four-wheel drive system. Built upon a stiff car-like chassis, the Grand Cherokee is lighter than if it had been built on a truck-style body-on-frame design. Advantages to the car-chassis base include less weight for better fuel economy, easier entry and exit, safety, and better on-road handling.

Even with the improvement in on-road handling, one of Jeep Grand Cherokee’s top capabilities is off-road performance. Owners can choose from one of five engine types, including a diesel engine, and one of three four-wheel-drive systems. Instead of independent suspensions, the Grand Cherokee utilizes Jeep’s Quadra-Coil suspension combined with four links and coiled springs. “Consumer Guide” ranks it as a class leader when it comes to off-road capabilities, even though the Grand Cherokee also provides a comfortable ride for long-distance on-the-pavement travel.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee ranks five stars for federal government crash tests in addition to incredible acceleration, maneuverability through urban settings, roomy interior, stylish design, and off-road capabilities. Standard accident avoidance features include electronic stability, four-wheel traction control, front and side-curtain airbags, roll-over sensors, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring system, enhanced accident response system, and SmartBeam headlamps that adjust the brightness of the high beam based on oncoming traffic. Other options include a ParkView rear back-up camera, ParkSense rear back-up system, High Intensity Discharge headlights, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist.

Safety ratings, roomy interiors, towing ability, off-road handling, and enhanced two-wheel or four-wheel drive capabilities are great features of the Grand Cherokee that cannot be touched by a sports car or competing SUVs in its class. Even while noting the differences, the similarities between the two vehicles are striking. Like many sports cars, the Grand Cherokee can move from 0 MPH to 60 MPH in less than five seconds. It feels secure and precise when traveling around high-speed curves, the steering feels natural, and stiff suspension underpinnings reduce the body roll while delivering a confident ride. A tight turning radius is an added improvement from the original models, making the Grand Cherokee nimble when parking in a lot or crawling the over trails. Smooth transmission shifts, strong braking ability, and powerful engine options provide the Jeep Grand Cherokee a raw feeling of power. In spite of this, luxury and capability are not an issue, as the Grand Cherokee has been found equal to or better than the Porsche Cayenne or Land Rover LR2 in independent studies. In comparing the reliability and price of the vehicles to the Grand Cherokee, both fall short of being reliable and stand too high in price. The Grand Cherokee also withstood a side-by-side comparison to the Audi R8 and was found to be capable of giving the R8 a run for its money.

In addition to handling performance, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has many luxury features that are found in many sports cars. The Grand Cherokee boasts options such as heated front seats, remote stereo controls on the steering wheel, driver’s side memory system for two different drivers, auto-dimming rear-view and side mirrors, quality carper, soft leather trims, and powerful stereos. The body style evolved from a hard edge style to a softer rounded look while retaining the chiseled strength of the original version. Interior space has been described as the size of an indoor hockey rink, while providing bins and pockets throughout for plenty of storage space. The interior remains refined, even with the large space and areas for storage. SIRIUS backseat TVs and MyGig entertainment systems are a few of the electronic upgrades available for the Grand Cherokee, allowing children to be fully occupied during long trips. The SIRIUS TVs boast first-ever-in-vehicle streaming video technology, offered exclusively by Chrysler. With luxuries like these, the Grand Cherokee creates a pleasant atmosphere for your family as you drive to your destination.

There are many great features that would inspire someone to purchase a Jeep Grand Cherokee instead of a sports car. With the traditional speed and handsome body style of a sports car in conjunction to the off-roading capability of a Jeep, and the roominess of an SUV, the Grand Cherokee delivers.

Gifts for the Jeep Owner in Your Life

Friday, January 15th, 2010

It is a commonly held opinion that we all know a Jeep owner. These classic off-road vehicles are by far and away the most popular option for anyone who enjoys leaving the beaten track to go on a more challenging route, and also for anyone who enjoys camping in more remote locations than the easy-access campsites that are laid on with parking lots. Even if it is not true that we all know a Jeep owner, it is safe to say that most of us know someone who, if they do not yet own a Jeep, certainly has designs on owning one someday. In this light, when it comes to buying birthday or Christmas gifts, the wide range of Jeep gifts and accessories make an excellent option.

One popular choice for those of us looking to surprise our Jeep enthusiast friends is the Jeep Sound Bar. Anyone who has tried installing a speaker system in their own car will know that what starts out as a seemingly simple process can easily become maddeningly frustrating. So what if you had the option to just put in place a pre-set speaker system that simply requires a minimum of wiring and placement? You would love that, right? So would your Jeep-loving pal! All of the speakers are set at optimum listening position without interfering with neither the comfort of your ride or the view of the road. Perfect for putting some off-roading music on and tackling the terrain as nature intended.

If your friend is a true Jeep owner then they will surely be taking their vehicle on camping trips. If you are going to be spending a night or more under canvas, you will need to take some luggage with you – and most likely it will need to be durable stuff, just like the vehicle in which you are travelling. No-one knows how to make something durable quite like the people at Jeep, so why not go for a Jeep Duffel bag along with some of the equipment you will need if on a camping trip – a radio lantern for example, or a heated travel mug for when the temperature drops at night?

For the Jeep-driving friend who realises that you cannot drive everywhere – and shouldn’t do so anyway if you don’t want to be looking at prohibitive fuel bills – there are also Jeep bikes. There are some great models, and all of them share one thing – the Jeep durability that means you can take them anywhere. With the all-terrain wheels and strong chassis that make a classic off-road machine, these bikes are going to have a place in the heart of any Jeep lover in just the same way as a four-wheel drive will.

There are tens of other options, depending on price range and suitability. You may wish to settle for Jeep t-shirts or caps if you are on a budget or just want to buy a surprise gift. Whatever the occasion, a Jeep-related gift will be the ultimate way to show someone you care, and that you realise the importance that their Jeep has in their life.
